The original baseball gloves were first created in the late 1800s, and they were privative when compared to modern gloves. Early baseball gloves were made of thin leather. The concept of a batting glove was not particularly popular for many years.

Gloves can help to increase the quality of a player’s grip, which is essential to successful hits. Gloves can come in a a variety of colors and styles. A good batting glove should be comfortable, conform well to your hand, and incorporate a wristband to ensure a proper fit. The palms should contain heavy-duty leather.
Just as softball or baseball batting gloves provide a good grip, they can also serve as protective gear when sliding into a base.

When you play in the field, leave the batting glove on under your baseball glove for additional comfort. The glove will help absorb some of the shock and sting when catching a ball.
Batting gloves can get sweaty and wet during use. Instead of just tossing them in the equipment bag after the game, lay the gloves out in a cool, dry place and let them air dry. This will reduce bacteria and give them a longer life.
Proper glove care is extremely critical. After using your glove, put it into a sealed bag or carrying case to trap the moisture into the leather. This will prevent your glove drying out and becoming stiff. Avoid putting oil on your glove or leaving it in the rain or weather. Oils and water can tend to saturate the leather, making the glove heavier and more difficult to use.
