Are the Atlanta Thrashers moving to Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada?
An agreement to sell the National Hockey League’s Atlanta Thrashers to a Winnipeg group which plans to relocate the franchise to the Manitoba capital is done.
Sources confirmed Thursday night that preparations are being made for an announcement Tuesday, confirming the sale and transfer of the Thrashers to True North Sports and Entertainment, which owns and operates the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League and the MTS Centre arena, which would become the NHL team’s new home.
BQ-1: What do you think the name of the new team would be? I would think that The Phoenix Coyotes still own the rights to the name: Winnipeg Jets.
BQ-2: Which NHL Team will be moved to The Southeast Divisoon?
The predictions I saw, had as many as 6 teams changing divisions were this relocation to go through.
I recall the list including Dallas, Colorado, Atlanta (Winnipeg), Detroit and two others were teams that could be in new divisions.
For the name I heard they were thinking of going with the “Winnipeg Falcons”.
This is all assuming that the NHL (Gary Bettman) doesn’t get involved now that there is an agreement and put a quick end to the deal.
