The championship game, commonly known as the “Super Bowl,” but not officially named such until 1969, comes out of a merger agreement between the two leagues. In 1970 the leagues are combined into the National Football League and organized into two conferences, the American Football Conference and the National Footbal Conference.
The National Football League champion Green Bay Packers defeated the American Football League champion Kansas City Chiefs in the first NFL-AFL World Championship game; the year was 1966. The score was 35 to 10 and Vince Lombardi was the coach for the winning Green Bay Packers.
