So How Much is Vintage Mlb Memorabilia Really Worth?
It is always intriguing for MLB memorabilia collectors to get information on the highly priced collections. A look into an auction arranged by the luxury auctioneers Sotheby’s and SCP will help us find an answer. Let us look at the various items on offer at the June 10, 2005 event.
The first ball thrown at the opening of the Fenway Park in 1912 is estimated to be worth $30000 to $50000. The ticket from the same game is estimated to fetch around $6000 which was initially sold for $4. A 1986 Red Sox championship ring belonging to Bill Buckner is estimated at around twenty to thirty Grand. The bat that was signed by Babe Ruth in 1920 is able to fetch a quarter of a million dollar. It was used in the game between Yankees and Chicago White Sox. It is just not an ordinary bat but comes with a criminal history. No it wasn’t used to kill someone but instead it was signed for the infamous mayor William Thompson of Chicago, who allegedly had links with the underworld boss ‘Al Capone’.
A jersey worn by Lou Gehrig in 1937 is estimated at more than $200000. The baseballs used by the Giants between 1920’s and 1924 are able to fetch as much as $8000 in auctions. Similarly Babe Ruth’s handwritten letter to Boston Globe thanking for their support is deemed to be around $30000 to $50000. A signed baseball by Connie Mack, a popular hall of fame manager is can fetch $3000 whereas bats signed by President Woodrow Wilson are auctioned to sell at a hefty $30000.
Such sales as a Hall of Fame pin from Connolly, a handwritten lineup sheet between Cleveland and Boston in 1914 and a group of letters are all estimated to sell for more than $2000. A Ted Williams signed 1934 bat is estimated to cost $12000 while various balls from 1920’s to 1950’s signed by different hall of fammers are destined to collect around $15,000.
