Mlb West Coast Teams

Why does the national sports media, including Yahoo, overwhelmingly favor East coast teams?
Why is it that every time I turn on ESPN or browse the sports pages of websites like Yahoo, they seem to only spend about 5% of their time talking about West coast teams? For instance on today’s MLB page on Yahoo! sports, only 2 of 19 headlines were about West coast baseball teams. What’s with that?
Right now, unfortunately, the simplest answer is that they’re winning. The AL East has the team with the best record in the league, and four out of the five teams have winning records. The AL West only has one team over .500, while the AL Central only has two.
The NL is a little closer. The NL East has four teams at or above .500, while the fifth is only two games under, including the team with the best record in the NL. In the NL Central, four out of six teams are under .500, and in the NL West three out of five are over .500.
Look at the World Series, too. Five out of the six teams in the last world series have all been in the East division. From 2000-2009, it’s 12 out of 20.
With all that said, I agree completely with you. The East Coast bias can get pretty ridiculous at times. But, you have to keep in mind that the East Coast teams have some of the largest and fiercest fan bases. Look here on Yahoo Answers. Every team has diehard fans out there, but every Yankees or Red Sox game will see this section overrun with those teams’ fans. You simply don’t see that from other teams’ fans. Where are the Reds fans bragging about leading in the division? Bottom line: You got to give the people what they want.
