Are the Marlins the best dollar for dollar team in the major leagues?
Every year we go through this. The Marlins compete for the lowest payroll title while they compete for the division title. The ownership (against league rules) grossly underspends and even has been reprimanded by MLB. But because of raw talent and good management this team keeps winning. Is this the best dollar for dollar team in baseball?
I will say the Rays are a good dollar for dollar team. But the Marlins have had far more success in their short history as a team while spending even less than the Rays.
I would say yes. They have a great system. Put together a great team, and when you win the World Series, trade them away for young talent. It works.
