Questions about hidden ball trick?
Today in my baseball game we attempted to pull a hidden ball trick. Runners on second and third with 1 out. The coach called time and called everyone to the mound. The ball got to the first baseman. Pitcher is on the mound and the first baseman tags the first base runner leading off first. According to the umpire it didn’t count. He said that first that he didn’t call time in and also the pitcher was on the mound. IS this true and can you quote the MLB official rules.
The umpire was correct and your coach needs to learn the rules.
The ball could not be made live unless all of the following conditions were met:
(1) The pitcher had the ball
(2) The pitcher was on the pitcher’s plate
(3) The umpire declared the ball in play
If any of the above conditions is not met, the ball cannot be live. So even if the umpire had declared the ball live, the ball still would have been dead.
To those who say the pitcher balked, the pitcher cannot balk when the ball is dead.
