Questions about MLB TV?
I am looking to get into mlb tv I am a huge baseball fan and would love to get the ultimate experience with mlb.tv. I want to know about national televised games like espn, foxs etc. I was wondering are you able to watch those games in HD too like all the other games or are those games not available. For those with a ps3 and downloaded the ps3 mlb.tv application is it easy to navigate, can you watch more than one game on ps3 like cpu with the quad view and do you experience laggy games?(on ps3) i have good connection but I wanna make sure I don’t have a laggy game. I’m really looking for people who have mlb tv. Note: I’m getting the premium edition it seems to be worth the extra 20$ getting to choose my own broadcasters and can have up to 4 games at once is pimp!
Yes, you are able to watch the games in HD. I recently purchased mlb.tv specifically for my PS3 and although it allows me to choose HD feeds, I seriously doubt they are truly HD as it looks nowhere near what a regular HD TV channel looks like – although, it definitely isn’t bad. The HD feeds look more like a standard TV feed where the standard mlb.tv feeds look WORSE than a regular TV feed, by far, but still watchable.
As far as navigation is concerned, it is incredibly simple. In fact, it is almost too simple where you wish they might add a few more advanced features in the future because so few buttons are used. But yeah, the application itself is easy as pie to use and you can watch a live feed, go back to the main menu, see all the current games on, their exact near-real-time statuses, and then go right back to the game you are watching without missing anything.
The bad thing is that for the PS3, there is currently no option to watch more than 1 game at a time. You can’t watch 2, 3, or 4 games as you can on the computer. I’m hoping/assuming that is a feature that will be built in/added later.
Next, there are definitely times where the game you are watching freezes for a second or sometimes even freezes permanently where you need to completely close the app and go back into it to make it work. If you google it, you’ll find plenty of posts related to the issue. I have only experienced that issue once and although it is annoying, it is infrequent enough for me that it isn’t a show-stopper.
I personally LOVE mlb.tv on my PS3 (you didn’t ask, but synching your PS3 up to your account is ridiculously easy). Given that this is the first release of the app, you should expect a few bugs. I have little doubt these will be fixed in the future.
**Edit, one last small gripe which might matter to some and won’t matter to others. It seems that the ps3 live feed is actually about 20 to 30 seconds behind the computer live feed, which is already 20 to 30 seconds behind the real game. That has always been an issue with MLB.TV however, but now it just seems to be amplified a bit more. I.E. you couldn’t, or should I say wouldn’t want to, locally listen to a radio annoucer call the game while watching mlb.tv, which some people like to do.
I personally find it pretty annoying to watch regular GAMEDAY be 2 pitches ahead of the “live” feed I am watching. Give me a break.
