Mlb Fantasy Draft Strategies
DRAFTING STRATEGIES PLEASE HELP!?
I have my MLB Fantasy draft coming up. Last year I got caught off guard and I was quite unprepared for my draft.
This year… not gonna happen.
While scouting out my prospects I’ve been mulling over how to go about drafting.
What strategies do you employ while drafting?
A couple of ideas I’ve been going over…
Draft from the least deep position first. There aren’t many impact (fantasy impact) players in the S.S. department so would you draft a S.S. first? Same with 2nd Basemen. Where like 1st base is pretty deep so if you take the GEMS of S.S. and 2nd base you can live with a decent 1st baseman.
Do you draft hitting first or pitching in a standard 5 X 5 league?
Since steals is only 1 category and it doesn’t affect anything else would you forget about steals and concentrate on just the other 4?
Those are just some of my ideas. WHAT IDEAS AND STRATEGIES DO YOU USE OR ARE THINKING ABOUT USING?
My main strategy is to get the best player available, while somewhat factoring the position scarcity. I would rather take JJ Hardy late in the draft, than reaching for Rafael Furcal in the 3rd round. From my experience, you have to be at the beginning of the draft, or near the end to land one of the top 3 SS. Hanley and Reyes usually go somewhere in the top 4 and Rollins will usually be gone by the beginning of round 2. After that, it drops off to solid guys like Ramirez, Drew, and Young, and risky picks like Tulowitzki, and Furcal.
Last year, I managed to place 3rd with Furcal as my SS, and Theriot when he got injured.
I don’t pick 2nd basemen early very often. I think they are too hit or miss. I think guys like Kelly Johnson, Howie Kendrick, or Jose Lopez are good enough as my starting 2nd baseman.
