Is someone stealing my internet?
I have at&t dsl service. When I am watching mlb tv it pauses and stops. They told me I have to have a certain amount of bandwith, which I understand. I have tested 5 times in the last two days to see what my bandwith is. It has been between 336kbps and 578kbps and I am not running any programs. The fluctuation has me wandering if someone has hacked into my internet and that is why mine is so slow. It used to load pages really fast when browsing, but lately that is even slow. Can I do a diagnostic test to see if anyone is hacking?

Things to keep in mind.
You have a dedicated dsl line to the local block, neighborhood distribution point. At this location you start to share router and repeater bandwidth with other customers. As you go upstream to the ISP you will continue to share with other customers from the same ISP (AT&T). When you leave their system to go to the open internet, you share bandwidth with everyone in the world on the same lines and router and trying to attach to the same servers. Different times of day will produce various results.
One thing to test is can your PC buffer the downloads, which can cause the fluctuations as the video refreshes in cache. Some movie clips are very massive and some come down in smaller pieces. Check your free memory, cache and free space on the hard drive. All serve as buffer space, or can be used depending on the PC you use and the OS.
