Atlanta to retire Maddux’s #31 — is this the right time?

The Braves will retire Greg Maddux’s #31 jersey on Friday, 17-July, at home against the Mets.
Mad Dog is overwhelmingly worthy of this honor, and it was going to happen eventually.
But is this the right timing? Mere days after the All-Star Game, Maddux retired just last season (though hadn’t been with the Braves since 2003), and the Cubs just co-retired (also in honor of HOFer Ferguson Jenkins) his #31 earlier this season in May. He’s years from qualifying for his first Hall ballot. Should the Braves have waited a season or three, make sure his heels have cooled, picked a less-bustling time of the year for this honor?
I think it feels kind of “too soon.” I’m even of the mind that they could or should have consulted Greg as to when he would like for them to do so. Mostly because I feel that the club’s time table is what has predicated the date they chose. Which as has kind of been mentioned already is most probably a marketing matter more than anything
