Mets SS Jose Reyes traded to Oakland Athletics for SP Gio Gonzalez, SS Cliff Pennington, and OF Michael Taylor?

This is the hot rumor right now in MLB circles according to MLB insider reports on MLB.com

Reyes to the A’s to finish the season — Billy Beane doesn’t mind that Reyes will leave as a Free Agent because he will be type A and they will get compensatory draft picks in 2012.

Surprised that they are willing to part with Gio Ganzalez, who looks like a potential ace and a young lefty to boot, but I guess you have to give up something to get something.

Another rumor is that the A’s want to acquire Reyes now and then flip him at the trade deadline for prospects.

The Mets want to move him asap because they know Reyes is injury prone and Beane is willing to gamble that Reyes hot streak will continue till the deadline and hope a desperate contender in need of a leadoff man will unload top prospects for him.

Sounds like a bad trade for the A’s to me. You’re in the race and you want to trade 3 of your best prospects for a guy that will only be there for the rest of the year, and is injury prone to boot? Keeping your young, talented players means success for years to come, not just one. Makes no sense to me.
