Should Red Sox fans and the team be worried about Bartolo Colon?
Red Sox on the mound: Operating on a pitch count, Bartolo Colon recorded only two outs in the first inning before the right-hander was lifted by manager Terry Francona, facing eight batters and allowing four runs on three hits. Colon walked three in the 41-pitch outing (21 strikes).

This guy has a very good chance of being the #5 pitcher or a long reliever. Can these numbers pass, especially because it’s Spring Training? (I know some of you will say, who cares? Its Spring Training, but remember the Yankees arent throwing their best lineup out there). If he cant handle this outing against the Yankees, how will he fare against the other elite teams in the AL?

Colon got a no-risk, medium-reward contract. If he flops, the Sox cut him, he costs peanuts. If he’s useful, they’ve got a decent arm to put on the hill sometimes. Spring training is practice time, time to experiment — outcome numbers matter less than what he’s been trying to do.
