Could Mauer have made it in the NFL?

Same Q, different time: Joe Mauer Bio: During his senior season as QB, Mauer completed 178 of 288 passes for 3,022 yards and 41 touchdowns, finishing his 2-year career as a starter with 5,528 yards and 73 touchdowns. He led his team to two consecutive Class 5A state championship game appearances, winning the title in 2000, and once threw 7 touchdown passes in a single playoff game. He was named Gatorade’s National Player of the Year, Parade and USA Today Player of the Year, Reebok/ESPN High School All-American, and “National High School Quarterback Of The Year” in 2000 by The National Quarterback Club (alongside other names like Vince Young and Chris Simms: http://www.nqbc.com/history.html )… but he turned down a full-ride football scholarship to Florida State to enter the MLB draft. My brother says he made the wrong choice choosing to go into MLB; so would he have been better off in the NFL? Was he even good enough? Thanks for your opinions.

and he was scouted by 11 major colleges michigan, usc, ect
