Okay — from left to right
On the far left you have the names of the teams. They are broken into divisions. For example Tampa Bay is in the eastern division. There are two leagues. One is called the American League. The other is called the National League. If you look above the name Tampa Bay you will see that they are in the American League (blue background white letters). Both the American League and The National League have three Divisions. They are east, central, and west. The last row has the listing for San Diego. San Diego is in the National League West division. Each team is listed according to their win and loss standing within their division. So Tampa Bay is the best team in the American League East Division and San Diego is in last place in the National League West division. Next to the name Tampa Bay is the letter x. That means that Tampa Bay has secured the winning position in their division. They get some additional advantages during the playoffs for that accomplishment. Below Tampa Bay you will see the name Boston with a y next to their name. The letter y means that a team will also be playing in the playoffs in what is called a wild card position. Boston didn’t win their division so they won’t have the same advantages that Tampa Bay will have but they will get to play in the post season. The rest is easy.
The next column are the number of wins the team has this year. That’s followed by the number of losses. Then the ratio of wins and losses. The fifth column are the number of games a team is behind the leader of their division. That’s followed by the number of wins and losses a team has at their home stadium. Which is followed by the wins and losses a team has while playing at other team’s stadiums. The next column is labeled RS which stands for the runs a team has scored during the season which is followed by a column that indicates the runs that other teams have scored against them. Next is the difference between the two previous columns. The column labeled streak indicates how many times the team has won or lost in a row. L10 stands for the last ten games played and is stated in wins and losses. Looking at Tampa Bay again you can see that they have won 6 games and lost 4 games in the last 10 games they’ve played. The last three columns are statistics concerning the likelihood of future events. But, because the season is over for most teams these events are no longer future possibilities but certain. The column labeled DIV indicates how likely it is that a team will win its Division. The column labeled WC indicates how likely it is that a team will obtain a wild card berth for the playoffs and the last column indicates how likely it is that a team will either win its division or get a wild card berth. Hope this helps.
