Mlb Baseball Rumors Yankees
Is there a limit to an MLB team signing free agents into their franchise?
I’m a Tampa Bay Rays fan, and just absolutely fearing the 2011 year. Why? Rumor has it that POSSIBLY both Carl Crawford and Cliff Lee are being talked to by none other than our most hated division rival, The New York Yankees (I shudder at the name). Can a team with that much money just simply sign all of that talent into their franchise like that?
Is that even fair?
If they can, how can ANY team possibly compete with all of that? Of course, who is to blame, when there are so many bandwagon fans just buying into the big teams (especially in football and baseball), just because they are good.
Actually, yes, there are limits to how many Type A and Type B free agents a given team can sign, but there’s several ways in which those limits can be flexed, and in all the time I’ve been following baseball I cannot recall the limit ever being invoked as a reason why a team could not obtain a FA player.
The limits are spelled out in the CBA, if you need something to help you sleep at night.
