mlb baseball on tv
i saw on tv once a baseball game(mlb) that a fan took away a catchable ball and it could have been an out?

but intead the fan took it away from the player and since he caught the ball it was a homerun and the team lost the game. i dont know what team it was, it was a play off game. and the guy became really hated by lots of fans, and where sat is very well remembered and known. i need his name! please help!

The kids name was Jeffrey Maier. He reached over the fence in the outfield and deflected the ball into the stands. Tony Tarrasco of the Orioles might have been able to catch the ball but he never got a chance. Derek Jeter of the Yankees was credited with a home run. It happened in a 1996 playoff game. The home run tied up the game in the 8th inning of Game 1 of the ALCS. The Yankees eventually won the game in 11 innings and the series 4 games to 1.

Maier ended up playing college ball for Wesleyn College in Middletown CT, about 10 miles from where I live. He actually did pretty good for them.
