mlb baseball ball facts
Can someone explain this syndrome to me?

its in baseball… the Steve Blass Syndrome. im not sure if its an actual medical condition but its when players just cannot throw the ball consistently anymore for unexplained reasons (not mechanical) and just overthrow the ball or throw it errantly.
i was wondering if this could be a psychological condition or something???

two contemporary examples of this are:

Chuck Knobloch – former all-star second baseman who lost it and started throwing the ball into the first base side seats on normally easily throws… led to his retirement (he did in fact try to get psychological help while with the New York Yankees)

Rick Ankiel – former All-American High School Pitcher … 2nd in rookie of the year voting.. then he was not able to throw a baseball for strikes and even threw the ball wildly almost 20 ft. over batters’ heads countless times… came back to the MLB as an outfielder mostly for his hitting though

The foremost thought is that when an individual appears to be in the “top of their league”, that they may tend to forget the basics. That is, that if one adheres to the fundamentals of the craft, e.g., baseball, that they may become somewhat complacent and “assume” that they have the talent and skills to master a certain domain.

Once this phenomenon occurs, that is all she wrote. They may come to think that they are somewhat invincible and this is why they may demonstrate their “conditioned” responses. Once they come to realize that they are human and occasionally make a mistake, hopefully they can then come to the realization that ” I can’t be perfect all of the time”, however, come to believe that I can strive toward perfection and if I come close, so be it.
