Little League Baseball Obstruction

August 20th, 2011

Is the runner out or safe?

In a Little League baseball game there was a groundball and the runner is thrown out at first. However, the first baseman’s foot was too far up on the bag so the runner tripped. The play wasn’t close but should the runner be awarded the base anyways? Was this obstruction?

All of the answers are not totally correct. The call could have gone either way.The rules
state that if the runner has to slow down or adjust his path to avoid tripping then obstruction
can be calledThe fielder cannot impede or deny the runner the right to the base.It all comes
down to Umpire discretion.

Obstruction Deduction
