Little League Baseball Batting
why is little league softball so different than baseball?
i’m a girl & enjoy watching the little league baseball world series, but the other day i caught a little league softball game, and found myself incredibly annoyed. the kids are the same age, aren’t they? do girls have scientifically proven slower reaction times than boys? because not only is the ball bigger, it’s neon!! on top of that, all the girls wear facemasks when batting… c’mon! if u can’t see that giant neon ball coming towards ur face, then u deserve to be hit! does anyone else see where i’m coming from? i mean, why can’t there just be girls’ baseball teams?! are girls so much blinder than boys that we need all these special accomodations?
the ball is coming from a shorter distance in softball, so actually you do have less time to react. it’s not that they can’t see it its that theres not much time to react. i know that in high school we throw from 40 feet and in baseball they throw at about 60 feet. but of corse that is for highschool level i am not real sure what little league distances would be. the ball isn’t actually neon, it’s just yellow, which in some cases can be a disadvantage, cause it’s a little easier to loose in the lights, if you are playing a night game. the facemask thing is actually a rule, its not opinonal. personaly i dont like the face mask, i would rather hit with out it, but in at least high school level. it is required,so i am beting it is in the little league level.
there arent girls baseball teams because there are softball teams, and it’s just as good as baseball, and if a girl wants to play baseball then they can play with the boys it really doesn’t matter. baseball and softball are two completly different things. there really aren’t any accomodations being made, because they are different sports. softball isn’t baseball for girls, many of the great baseball players couldn’t play softball, theres no way they could hit a rise ball.
