How can the US be so hated? We have done so much for the world.?
Everybody in the world is dependent on our inventions – cars, planes, light bulb, computers, the Internet, electricity, TV, radio, rockets and satellites, sports like the NFL, NBA, an MLB, and even blue jeans… and the list goes on and on. Americans have invented over 7 million things according to the US Patent Office – and I am not aware of anything invented elsewhere.
It makes me laugh to see people in American jeans wearing shirts and hats with NFL logos and using the American Internet to chant “death to America”.
Not to mention that we freed the world from the Nazis, the Japanese, and the communists.
If it wasn’t for us, they’d all be enslaved or dead.
So why does the world hate us?
It isn’t fair how the U.S. is portrayed. We give more international aid and disaster relief than any other country in the world, and we have contributed to a lot of cultural developments and humanitarian missions worldwide.
At the end of the day, I think we are hated because we are on top – the wealthiest and the most free nation in the world.
I also think that most of our criticisms really come from within. (look at the other answers after all) Seriously, when I’ve traveled abroad, I’ve not met anyone vocally opposed to the United States, but here at home I hear criticisms every day.
It would be good for some of our home-grown critics to spend a few years in a less democratic place and see what they think.
At the end of the day though, I think it’s always easy to hate the guy on top (boss, rich neighbor, government official) and it’s always easy to criticise when you don’t know how well off you really are.
We do think we’re pretty hot stuff, but we are pretty hot stuff, and there are lots of nations who think that about themselves, so that’s not a valid excuse. Furthermore, if it was all about oil supplies we’d be drilling in Alaska. We may not always achieve our objectives, but we have contributed to the liberation of a lot of other nations, and we have stood firmly in place to protect that liberation when it has been in jeopard. (until whining hippies decide they don’t want to feed the horse they ride, and abandon the helpless to be devoured by their enemies)
