Do ML baseball teams give up when they know they’re out of the race?
I was just looking at the MLB standings and some of the teams are 20 and 30 games back. Do they just give up when they know they don’t have a spot in the palyoffs? Even the Bosox are 9 games back.
It is on an individual basis, but you’ll see young players who are looking for a shot at cracking the starting lineup the next season or free agents-to-be still playing hard. But for many others, that extra gear may not be used….and the thinking typically is, “why risk injury – playing hard for a manager/GM who won’t be here next year – for nothing.”
