What’s your best baseball player story?

Mine would probably be when I met Ernie Banks. This was outside of the Cubs Spring Training Facility in Arizona. I saw about 5 or 6 people gathered around a car and I asked a kid who it was. He said, “Ernie Banks, I think.” The car pulled off and I chased it for about 1/2 a block, but then I gave up and was standing there looking sad when the car stopped and backed up to where I was at. He was in the passenger seat and rolled down his window. I was so awestruck that I just held out my hand and said “Mr. Cub” Luckily, my husband had enough sense to get a couple of baseballs out the bag so we could get his autograph. He was so nice and genuine. This was the same day that I begged Barry Bonds for an autograph and didn’t get it (I was the only one standing there). That shows the difference in the older guys and the new ones. Anyway, that’s my best story. Tell me yours.

I went to an Angels game about 15 years ago and got Dante Bichette’s(Right Fielder) attention during pre-game warm ups. I lied and told him that I was “Joe Mcintrye” from the New Kids on the Block. He bought it and took me on the field, down into the dugout and in the locker room! Here I am, a 16 year old frightened kid who is staring the likes of Brian Downing, Dave Winfield and Wally Joyner right in the face inside thier own locker room! I actually saw Jim Abbott naked lying on the trainers table! Dante even took me out after the game and bought me dinner at TGI Fridays. I was scared shitless because if anyone found out, I would be in a heap of trouble! At least I pulled it off and it is something I can tell my kids someday!
