Baseball Scores From Yesterday
January 13th, 2008

Do I use quotations in this situation?
I am writing a short answer to a question. I have taken an idea from a document and rephrased it. I did give credit by saying according to ____. Should I put quotations around the sentence as well?
Example:
The baseball team only scored three runs yesterday and will be searching for a new coach, according to Smith.
^Those are not Smith’s words exactly however, do I still need quotations?
Thanks so much
no because its not exactly the same but you need to cite your sources… technically every research essay someone writes is just a paraphrase, its only when its an exact statement that quotations are needed
