The wild card is basically the best second place team. The reason that Cleveland and Detroit are in first (this is indicated by the dash) is because they are also tied for the division lead. For example, if Cleveland wins and Detroit loses the next game, then you will only see Detroit as the first place team for the Wild Card Standings because Cleveland has sole possesion of First for the Division. This is applied to both leagues and it (Wild Card) was first introduced in the Mid 1990′s. It has proven to be a success, as now we see 8 teams given the chance to participate in the playoffs instead of the previous years when it was on 4.
The numbers you are showing me are the Number of Wins, Losses, and winning percentage.
