Is football growing as a sport in America?
I was watching The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and it seemed like Americans were genuinely interested in how the USA football team (not American football – I mean the football where you only touch the ball with your feet) had performed in the world cup. Is this just national pride, or is America genuinely becoming more interested in football now?
I had thought that football wasn’t really widely played in America as they prefer sports like baseball, basketball and American football. Or is that just my misconception?
That’s pretty cool Lance…America seems to love it’s sports, so it’d be nice to see football grow there so the USA can start to compete more on the world stage 
it was just national pride. once the US was eliminated, we went back to not caring again. and the fact that a lot of kids here play is not news or new. soccer has been a huge kids game here for many decades. suburban mothers sign their kids up for soccer because they don’t want their small kids playing the much rougher game of football, hence the term “soccer moms”. but as soon as those kids reach high school age, they drop soccer and start playing the more popular sports like football, basketball, and baseball. high school football on friday nights in this country is as american as apple pie. hence the movies, “friday night lights” and “remember the titans”.
