Louis Lassen has invented the hamburger. He grounds beef, broils it, and serves it between two pieces of toast. It is derived from the thirteenth-century Hamburg steak that was introduced to the Germans by the Tartars. German immigrants arriving in North America are bringing this steak dish with them.
The Hershey Chocolate Company has introduced the first Hershey milk chocolate bar. It is priced cheaply enough to make this chocolate bar an everyday item.

On a particularly cold day at a New York baseball game, no one is buying concessionaire Harry Stevens’ ice cream, so he begins selling sausages and rolls. He starts calling out, “red hot dachshund sausages!” and finds they are very popular. Thomas”Tad”Doran, a sports cartoonist for the New YOrk Journal, is in the press box and seeing this he attempts to draw a cartoon of a barking sausage steaming in its stretched out roll. He doesn’t know how to spell “dachshund,”so he writes “hot dog”instead, a name catching on
